Katy Reading Roots Initiative

Establishing Little Libraries in every Katy ISD school to promote and enhance literacy across the district.

Our Vision

Project Katy Reading Roots aims to establish Little Libraries in every Katy ISD school. We believe that these libraries will play a crucial role in promoting and enhancing literacy across the district.

By providing children with access to a diverse range of books, we aim to offer them the opportunity to develop and refine their reading skills, ultimately fostering a lifelong love for reading.

What Makes Our Little Libraries Special

Accessibility

Little Libraries are accessible beyond regular school hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, fostering a culture of reading that extends beyond the classroom.

Community Involvement

These libraries become community hubs, encouraging local residents, parents, and businesses to contribute books and volunteer, strengthening the bond between school and community.

Diverse Selection

Offering an eclectic range of books, including popular titles, local authors, graphic novels, and multilingual books, catering to varied interests and backgrounds.

Student Empowerment

Students take ownership by helping to manage, curate, and promote the libraries, fostering leadership skills and responsibility.

Informal Setting

Providing a casual setting for book exchanges, making reading feel like a fun, leisure activity rather than a school assignment.
